An explanation

The Parish Council and Highways agreed that the Law College developer should park the three cars partway on the cobbles by the Village pump to leave sufficient space for HGVs to pass in front of the Church.
This has avoided the controversial alternative of double yellow lines on both sides of the road opposed by the Parish Council, businesses and local residents.
Double yellow lines would have displaced at least 10 cars into parking on Birch Heath Lane and Pepper Street which would have

  • created a range of accident risks for residents and children on foot and cycles
  • obstructed access by emergency vehicles, HGVs and buses

This temporary parking has worked well for 12 months and has only another 6 months to run at the end of which the cars will be removed and any damage to pebbles repaired.
